Now Open! Road Expansion and Growth in Naples: How Collier County is preparing for the future

Now Open! Road Expansion and Growth in Naples: How Collier County is preparing for the future

Growth in Naples and across Collier County has pushed local governemtns and FDOT into one f the largest roadway expansion periods the area has seen in decades. Much of the work is focused on easing congestion from rapid residential growth east of I-75, especially around Immokalee, Golden Gate Estates, and North Naples.

Some of the biggest trasnsportation projects currently shaping the area include:

Vanderbilt Beach Road Extension

This is one of the most talked-about projects in Collier County. The county is extending Vanderbilt Beach Road about seven miles eastward from Collier Boulevard toward 16th Street NE, with future expansion continuing toward Everglades Boulevard. The project includes:

  • New Six-lane roadway sections
  • Bridges over multiple canals
  • Bike lanes and shared-use paths
  • New traffic signals and intersections

County officials expect this corridor to relieve pressure from Immokalee Road and improve east-west traffic flow for the rapidly growing Estates area. Construction is expected to continue into 2026.

Airport-Pulling Road Widening

The county is widening Airport-Pulling Road between Vanderbilt Beach Road and Immokalee Road from four lanes to six lanes. This corridor has become heavily congested because of:

  • New housing communities
  • Commerical expansion
  • Increased seasonal traffic

The project also adds bicycle facilities, drainage improvements, sidewalks, and upgraded intersections.

Collier Boulevard (CR 951) Expansion

Collier Boulevard is being widened in phases from four lanes to six lanes in several sections south and east of Naples. This roadway is one of the county's major north-south corridors and serves

  • Marco Island traffic
  • Golden Gate growth
  • New residential developments

Officials describe it as a long-term growth-management corridor intended to support population increases over the next several decades.

Immokalee Road Improvements

Immokalee Road remanins one of the busiest and most frustrating corridors in the county. Multiple projects are underway or planned, including:

  • Intersection imporvements at Randall Boulevard
  • Signal timing upgrades
  • Shoulder widening
  • Future expansion planning east of the current growth zones

Residents frequently discuss congestion concerns online. especially near I-75 and Randall Boulevard, where population growth has accelerated dramtically.

SR 29 and Regional Expansion

  • Freight traffic
  • Commuter traffic
  • Hurricane evacuation capacity
  • Agricultural and industrial growth

This is tied to long-range regional planning for Southwest Florida’s continued expansion inland.

A major reason these projects matter for real estate is that infrastructure often drives where future development occurs. Areas once considered “far out” east of Naples are becoming more accessible, which is increasing interest from:

  • Builders
  • Investors
  • Retirees
  • Families relocating from other states
